Wearing High Heels Is Good For You

Wearing high heels is good for you?!
Sarah Jessica Parker and I have something in common, a passion for shoes…especially high heels! The sexier and spikier the better. We all know that wearing high heels helps accentuate your legs making them look longer and leaner. When you wear high heels your body shape responds by arching the back. This helps make your waist look smaller and gives you a bootie popping posture.

Well, guess what? Here’s something you might not have known. Research shows that wearing heels may actually be good for you! High five to Sarah Jessica Parker!
Researchers at Warwick and Oxford Brookes universities discovered that wearing high heels may make women less likely to develop arthritic changes in their knee joints as they age. At the least, they were no worse off than those who opted for lower heeled shoes.

The study comprised 111 women between the ages of 50 to 70 and it’s thought that by exercising the muscles of the leg, heel-wearers may build up better support for their knees. Especially if they regularly hit the dance floor. Guess that means we need to hit the dance floor more often as well! Perfect for a FBB exercise and fun at the same time!!! whoop whoop!
Professor Margaret Thorogood, from Warwick University, says, “Women who wear stiletto heels will be reassured to learn that their choice of fashion-before-comfort footwear will not lead to joint problems and may even prevent them.”

Wearing high heels can even help with your sex life!!!
A separate study suggests heels can also do wonders for a woman’s sex life. According to Italian urologist Dr Maria Cerruto wearing a pair of “moderately high-heeled shoes” had the beneficial effects of toning legs and strengthening pelvic muscles. “They directly work the muscles which are linked to an orgasm,” she says.
Better orgasms here we come!! No pun intended.

  • Three Strange Health Tips

GERMS ARE NOT FOR SHARINGThree strange health tips you may not have thought of. Part of being a Fit Body Babe is staying healthy and cleanliness is a big part of that! Here are a couple of interesting facts about germs.

Strange health tip number one and why:

Wash Your Hands After Getting Cash
Cleanliness tests have revealed that cash machines or ATMs carry the same germs and are as dirty as public toilets, icky! When scientists took swabs from urban ATMs around the US, they found the machines were heavily contaminated with bacteria, including those known to cause sickness and diarrhea.
Dr Mark Fielder, a medical microbiologist says, “If people don’t wash their hands properly, all sorts of organisms will be transferred to the buttons on an ATM. Just as it’s important to wash your hands after using the toilet, it would be sensible to clean them after getting money out.”

    Strange health tip number two:

    Use Soap, Not Hand Wash
Scientists have warned that expensive antibacterial washes  and sanitizers are no better at cleaning hands than ordinary soap and they may even encourage super-bugs.
American research published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases found that triclosan, the main active ingredient in many antibacterial soaps, can cause some bacteria to become resistant to commonly used antibiotics such as amoxicillin. That’s because triclosan targets bacteria in much the same way as antibiotics do, by destroying crucial components of their cells. Bacteria are highly adaptable and common ones such as E.coli and salmonella – major culprits in food poisoning – may develop some resistance to the threat.
Dr Anthony Hilton, a microbiologist from Aston University in the UK, says, “These products pander to people’s insecurities and they are often used inappropriately – for example, either too briefly or with cold water. You should wash hands thoroughly for several minutes in warm, clean water. The action of washing and the temperature remove bacteria more effectively than a fancy [antibacterial] product.”

    Strange health tip number three:

    Flush With the Lid Down

Dr Charles Gerba, a microbiologist from the University of Arizona, warns that you should always flush the toilet with the seat lid down. When the seat lid is not down, polluted water particles float for a few hours around your bathroom before they all land, some even on your toothbrush. Gross!!!
Dr Gerba says: “It doesn’t happen all the time, but E.coli and other faecal-based bacteria really can make you ill, so unless you want to brush your teeth with what was in the toilet, close the lid.”

If you aren’t already OCD this might make you become so LOL. Germs, germs everywhere!

    Spicy Kale Stir Fry

2 tablespoons coconut oil or quality vegetable oil
2 eggs, beaten with a dash of salt
2 big cloves garlic, pressed or minced
½ bunch green onions, green and white parts, thinly sliced (about ¾ cup)
Optional: 1 cup thinly sliced vegetables, like bell pepper, carrot or Brussels sprouts
1 medium bunch kale (preferably Lacinato but curly green is good, too), ribs removed and leaves finely shredded
¼ teaspoon fine grain sea salt
¾ cup unsweetened coconut flakes* (not shredded coconut)
2 cups cooked and chilled brown rice
2 teaspoons reduced-sodium tamari or soy sauce
2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce or sriracha
    1 lime, halved
    Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Heat a large (12-inch or wider) wok, cast iron skillet or non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot enough that a drop of water sizzles on contact, add 1 teaspoon of oil. Pour in the eggs and cook, stirring occasionally, until the eggs are scrambled and lightly set. Transfer the eggs to your empty bowl. Wipe out the pan if necessary with a paper towel (be careful, it’s hot!).
Add one tablespoon of oil to the pan and add the garlic, onions and optional additional vegetables. Cook, while stirring, for 30 seconds or longer, until fragrant or until the vegetables are tender. Add the kale and ¼ teaspoon salt. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the kale is wilted and tender, which will just take a couple of minutes. Transfer the contents of the pan to your bowl of eggs.
Add the remaining two teaspoons of oil to the pan. Pour in the coconut flakes and cook, stirring frequently, until the flakes are lightly golden. Add the rice to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until the rice is hot, about 3 minutes.
Pour the contents of the bowl back into the pan. Add your 2 teaspoons of tamari (or soy sauce) and hot sauce (chili garlic sauce or sriracha). Stir to combine, then transfer the contents to serving plates or back to your bowl. Squeeze the juice of ½ of a lime over the dish. Garnish with a sprinkling of torn cilantro leaves and wedges of lime, with jars of chili garlic sauce, sriracha and/or red pepper flakes on the side.

  • weight loss

Weight Loss, what’s more important: Exercise, Healthy Eating or Sleep?

Weight loss…what’s more important? In an ideal world, you’d master all three. But, yeah, life happens. So where should you start?

    Sourced through Scoop.it from: health.usnews.com

I would say all 3 are important but of course life gets in the way, for example your babies won’t stop crying or the only option for dinner is unhealthy and of course work is so crazy that I’ve not chance to work out this week.

When you don’t get enough sleep, guess what…your sugar levels are low and you crave some unhealthy food, which means you may put on weight, you will also be less likely to go to the gym and workout. And after filling your body with unhealthy things and not working out you may well have trouble sleeping that night, so it’s a vicious circle. But on the flip side, if you get a good night’s sleep, you wake up feeling refreshed, crave healthier foods and have more energy so you will be more likely to workout and then hopefully you will get a good night’s sleep.

I recommend working out first thing in the morning, your metabolism is faster first thing in the morning, plus it’s a great way to kickstart the day. Motion creates emotion which means working out releases a number of hormones that are going to make you feel awesome for the rest of the day.

If you eat healthily, your body is more likely to be working in prime condition which means you should get a good night’s sleep, which again leads to a positive cycle and weight loss.

If you make good choices, more good things happen right? It’s the law of attraction. You are what you eat! Now this isn’t to say you have to live like a nun, you can have the odd cookie or sweet dessert. But if your diet consists of healthy foods, you will look better, feel better, do better! Now go and get your greens…

ps. my ideal start to the day would be working out first thing, then having a power smoothie for breakfast – in this you should have berries, banana, kale, spinach, cinnamon, ginger and some Juice Plus Complete powder. You will be ready to take on the day like a BOSS after that start.

Healthy Foods That Give You the Biggest Bang for Your Nutrition Buck

Looking to rapidly improve the quality of your diet? These 15 healthy foods give you the most nutrients for the smallest number of calories.

    Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.nutritionsecrets.com

The great news is that you can have a lot of these awesome healthy foods together as well…For example you can start your day with oats and almond milk and a scoop of Greek yogurt and some blueberries…as an extra bonus add a teaspoon of flax seeds and chia seeds also. It’s important to get some protein first thing in the morning as well so for me I always add the Juice Plus Complete powder – it contains plant based protein (proven to be more bio available) and 17 different fruits and vegetables. All of that is an incredible way to start the day. Guess what? If you start the day by putting healthy foods into your body, you will crave more good stuff throughout the day as well.

Alternatively you can get a lot of these things in a homemade smoothie as well…the oats, the blueberries, kale, Greek yogurt and add some flax and chia seeds and the Juice Plus Complete powder with an added banana to complement the texture and again this is an excellent start to the day.

A mid morning snack can be a few boiled eggs on some rice cakes with some humus. Or you could always start your day with the oatmeal and the extras, then your mid morning snack could be a shake with all of the awesome ingredients. It’s entirely up to you. But all of the above doesn’t have to cost too much nor does it have to take up too much of your time to make it.

Wow with all of that – you have well and truly loaded up your body with an incredible amount of greatness and you are what you eat, so that makes you, yep you guessed it, GREAT! 🙂

    Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.doctoroz.com

Three more ways to belly blaster your fat for a flat belly.

Eat a snack Eat a snack that contains protein between 3pm -4pm. Go for a plant based protein bar or a handful of almonds and an apple.
No matter what you do do not miss this snack. It helps boost metabolism and balances your blood sugar. The lower you keep your blood sugar, the lower you keep your insulin, insulin makes you store fat around your middle. So Eating every 3 to 4 hours will keep your blood sugar balanced, but many people tend to go five or six hours between lunch and dinner without eating.

Cut out sugar Eat as close to zero grams of sugar as possible. This will keep insulin levels low and also keep levels of glucagon high. Glucagon is a hormone and it is the best friend you could ever have in the struggle for a flat belly!  It helps belly blaster all the fat around your belly!
The closer to zero grams of sugar you consume, the lower your insulin and the higher your glucagon…it’s as simple as that.

Do less ab exercises & Eat more healthful
Another belly blaster…Spend 60 minutes a day preparing healthier meals. Spend 20 minutes a day three to five times weekly doing cardio. Spend 15 minutes a day three times a week strength training. Finally, spend 5 minutes a day three times a week doing abs exercises. Follow this to safely loose 1-2 pounds per week.

Fergie drinks vinegar and personally I do too. I start the day with warm water and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar & a teaspoon of raw honey. It’s a great way to kick start the digestive system. It is great for alkalizing the body and  can give you a great energy boost, ACV is actually great for your skin too. It is important to note that the apple cider vinegar needs to be organic and unpasteurized and the honey needs to be raw. Try it for 3 weeks and see what you notice.

Actually adding the raw honey has several benefits as well! The combination of ACV and honey is perfect in the fight and prevention of infections thanks to its active compounds. In the same time it is great for the overall health and well being because it kills bacteria which causes inflammations, infections and various diseases and many more benefits.

    Some of the benefits are:

    • Eliminates pain in the joints so it is perfect for people with arthritis.
    • Eliminates acid and heartburn
    • Helps with digestion and constipation
    • Reduces cholesterol in the blood thus decreases blood pressure

    • Great medicine for sore throat
    • Energy booster
    • Gives glow to the skin making it better and healthier

  • diet mistakes

Biggest Diet Mistakes & How to Resolve

“We asked four experts — who’ve helped everyone from celebs to everyday women get their diets back on track — to tell us the mistakes they see their clients make over and over when it comes to healthy eating. Read on for the biggest diet mistakes…top four mistakes”

    Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.popsugar.com

Interesting article about the biggest diet mistakes. At Fit Body Babe we always suggest prepping your meals for the week on Sundays is a great way to handle one of the diet mistakes. Food prep plays a major part of your ability to eat healthy during the week.

Here are some ideas on prepping food for beginners.

If the thought of prepping food ahead of time overwhelms you, start small. You can ease into it by simply washing and chopping a few fruits and vegetables and making some trail mix and hard boiled eggs to snack on. As it becomes more of a habit, try throwing some chicken on the grill to eat through out the week, cooking up a batch of quinoa  or brown rice and making a big pot of soup, stew or a casserole.

Remember that you don’t  have to prep entire meals. Look at your meal plan and prep some of the common foods in your meals. Make bigger batches that will keep in the fridge or freeze for later.

Pre-wash and cut your lettuce and veggies and fruits to make things easier and faster to throw together a stir fry or veggie omelet.

Make a list of everything you want to prep for the week. Use your weekly menu or decide on basic staples that can be used in a variety of meals (like fish, meat,  beans, grains etc). Divide  your list into sections like no cooking, stove top, oven… so you have a clear picture of what needs to be done in each area of your kitchen.

    Be Mindful

Most foods are only good in the fridge for about 4 days so only make enough that you can get through by Thursday. You can then add more fresh perishable foods that day to finish the week. Remember you can always freeze for later.

Try doubling your recipe and freeze left overs this will make meal prep easier in the following weeks!

The Biggest Fitness Trend In 2016 Will Be…

“Start prepping your New Year’s resolutions: The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has announced its annual fitness trend forecast and, for the first time, exercise pros say wearable”

    Sourced through Scoop.it from: www.shape.com

A New Year a New You! Are you ready for the top fitness trend for 2016? And the top fitness trend is…wearable technology. This includes fitness trackers, smart watches, heart rate monitors, and GPS tracking devices.

Hello FitBit, a wearable fitness product that helps improve your health by tracking your activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep. These wearable devices also provide immediate feedback that can make the wearer more aware of their level of activity and can motivate the user to achieve their fitness goals.

I heard Jawbone is actually building a health tracker you can swallow! The goal being to collect intimate details about how efficient—or inefficient—various body parts are functioning. And Google is was working on a pill that’s capable of detecting diseases, such as cancer, at the cellular level.

Wow, what will they think of next!

FDA has also approved a product called PhilCam Colon a device used for patients who were unable to do a colonoscopy. The pill actually takes a series of photos and videos as it passes through the patients digestive system, it then transmits the footage to a computer for the doctor to analyze.

The Scout wearable drone is like a playmate and workout buddy in one. The sphere, which is encased in rubber, snaps into a magnetic clip and is also a health monitor! You can actually go rock climbing with the Scout and it will identify a climbing route that is the perfect challenge for your climbing skills.

Hey, wait a minute…didn’t I see something like this on a movie once…or twice?!  At least fitness will stay fun and interesting. The future is here and it holds a lot of crazy and exciting!
